Cubs Win, Cubs Win!
The Major League Baseball World Series for 2016 pitted the Chicago Cubs of the National League against the Cleveland Indians of the American League. Both teams stood to end long years of falling short of championship, the Indians 68 years, the Cubs 108 years!
The Cleveland Indians, on the strength of their pitching, mounted a 3-games-to-1 lead, which meant that the Cubs needed to win three games in a row to become champions. This is not often accomplished in the World Series. The dream came true on November 2nd, the final game immediately being labeled an instant classic.
It is a ludicrous understatement to say that “interest was high” in the Tillinghast household. Both Thomas Tillinghast and Elena Johnston were born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. While this does not automatically make you a Cubs fan, both were susceptible, and willingly became fanatical. No one who knows them would claim Elena was the lesser in intensity. She did not hesitate to stand astride the edge of doom for the entirety of the playoffs. As Sara noticed, Elena might have had to go to confession over a few un-loving thoughts and un-holy utterances when things went wrong for the Cubbies.
Cubs fandom is a life-long, world-wide infection, with millions suffering from its ravages for over a century. No one knows the ramifications of deliverance.
